You can’t imagine the modern world without the invention of plastics.
Plates and dishes, bottles, hairbrushes, pens, paper clips, chairs… and lots of other household items and supplies, used in our everyday life, are made of plastic. Plastic is used in all areas of our lives, and it’s really hard to think what our everyday life would look like if there was no plastic.

Plastic was invented by English inventor and metallurgist Alexander Parkes in 1855. Parkes called it Parkesine and presented it to public in 1862, during the International Exhibition in London.
Later, in 1868, John Wesley Hyatt improved Parkes’ invention, bringing it to a finished form and calling it Celluloid. A few years later Hyatt was the one who created the first injection molding machine. Of course, this machine was much more simple and primitive than modern ones. But the injection molding machine’s invention was a revolutionary thing. From that moment the plastic industry began.
The plastic boom began during World War II, because the war demanded lots of cheap products, easily manufactured and available for almost everyone. In those times the first screw injection molding machine was created by James Hendry. The technologies continued to develop, but now about 95 percent of modern injection molding machines use screws, the technology of Hendry.
