Samal Brings A Parallel World To Your Living Room
Do you have imagination bright enough to picture a bookshelf from the parallel world emerging right through your living room wall?
The famous designer from Belarus Dzmitry Samal has that imagination. Moreover, he has a good amount of creativity to bring this illusion to life.
The parallel world collection by the leading home interior designer was first introduced at Milan Design Week 2010 and immediately drew overall admiration.
It is difficult to rate this collection as an ordinary or a predictable one. Generally it belongs to the category of surrealistic furniture, where there are no standards and everything depends on bright imagination and high professionalism.
Samal himself describes his work as new retro futurism. I would simply say that it’s something ingenious!
The collection consists of eight pieces– two bookshelves, four shelves and two lamps.
So what’s so striking about the collection?
All of the collection’s pieces seem to emerge right from the wall, with half of them still left in a parallel world.
The storing systems are made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and the lamps are made of semi-transparent plastic.
The trick is the following—the parts are affixed to the wall at carefully chosen points of fixation. The points of fixation play the key role in creating the illusion that half of the object is inside the wall or in the parallel side of reality.
The collection is a real sensation. I guess no one can remain indifferent towards this alien-like furniture, especially those who are fond of things that are “out there.”
