Dangers Of Developed Security Systems

Dangers Of Developed Security SystemsEveryone would like indeed to live in a world where security cameras were totally useless, but this would only be a dream, because the world is what it is and not what we want it to be.

The necessity of security cameras is raised for preventing robbery, thefts and crimes, and their use can be justified from this point of view. There is no question about the effectiveness of security cameras. Therefore, there are still some points which can’t be left out of consideration, as they are of great importance in public life.

These are the questions of individual privacy. There was quite a common polemic on this subject for a long time, since the period when security cameras had greater presence in various public places, such as stores, subways, and even streets. The problem has a mainly moral basis, because widely installed cameras threaten a person’s privacy, a point regulated by the Declaration of Human Rights as the main right of any individual despite his race, color, sex, social status and religion. The recent growth of CCTV systems in housing areas also raises serious issues about their abuse as not a prevention against crimes, but mainly as social control. This kind of approach is not very far from reality because everything in the world can be used either in favor of or in detriment to society, like for instance, planes. The idea to create planes was born to facilitate fast transportation, but later on, planes were transformed into bombing weapons.

Nowadays, in different countries there are special guidelines to regulate the use of CCTV systems to prevent their abuse in people’s private lives. In Ontario, for example, there are strict regulations derived from the Freedom and Protection of Privacy Act, which outline limitations against access to recorded images and information. However, in the United States, there aren’t such protection mechanisms. The growth of video surveillance is not less in the US than in other countries.

Anyway, there aren’t any contests on the point that there is no need for security systems. The problem for any society is to be able to keep the balance between necessity and abuse.
